Island Map of Cozumel

Useful Island Information
- When renting a scooter always wear a
helmet, it is the law, even if others don't seem to be wearing
them!. Just remember that scooters are not as stable as a regular
motorcycle, so be careful and don't drink and drive. Most of the
accidents in the island have scooters involved in them...
- The streets going from east to west or
west to east do not have the right of way, there is a stop sign at
every corner, unless you're on a main avenue.
- Most of the streets going from north to
south have the right of way(most of the time). There are some
sections where this is not the rule, but not too many places.
- Remember to read your rental agreement.
- Most water in Cozumel is bottled and
purified, it is safe to drink.
- Don't throw anything in the toilet(except
you know what...) including toilet paper. Pipes are usually narrow
and get easily clogged.
- Beware that during sunset hours it is
human buffet for mosquitoes, especially during rainy season or
close to the jungle. Wear some mosquito repellent if you plan to
be outdoors during these hours (specially on your heels if you go
to that wonderful outdoor restaurant for dinner...)
- Cozumel, in our oppinion, is a safe town, if not the safest in Mexico. You can walk around without any fear at any time during the day or night. The mayor crime in Cozumel is bicycle theft and scooter parts theft. Please do not drink alchohol while on the streets. We would not do that in your town...
